Web dataminer

The dataminer accessible on this web site gives access to some of the main functions of Naiad system in an interactive way. In particular it allows data search and visualization, extraction and subscription to custom product sized to user specifications.

Main actions

The main functions of the dataminer - or actions - are accessible through the manu on top of the application window.

  • Search allows to query the data subsets matching user-definied criteria. The returned result is a list of data granules (or files), not the actual data. Properties and coverage of these matching data can be overlayed on the map view. Each item in the returned list can then be visualized or extracted, which required actual access to the data granules and therefore is slower.
  • Extract allows to query the data subsets matching user-definied criteria and to extract these data in a user-defined format (format, remapping, content,...) into a single operation. This allow to skip the intermediate step where you first analyze the list of granules to be extracted.
  • Subscribe allows to define a custom product that should be generated on a periodic basis and sent to the user.
  • Load allows to load previously defined search and extraction settings
  • Save allows to save currently defined search and extraction settings or extract?

Both actions feature the same search and selection criteria (defined through specific tabs in the settings window) : so do you need to go through search action if you want to extract data? Look below at the details of each action. But to make it short :

  • if you just want to visualize interactively data, use the search action
  • if you want to extract the data and you are sure of your search criteria and don't feel the need to refine a little bit the list of matching data, use direct extract action.
  • if you are not sure about what you want to extract, it may be safer to go first through search action, investigate what is returned as result (list of proposed granules to extract) and decide which one you want eventually to extract.

When extracting the data (in binary or image format), Naiad system offers the ability to remap the data over a user-defined grid, in whatever area, projection and resolution. This tutorial describes the different step for remapping the data in the extraction process.
